rebuilding tomorrows workforce,
supporting today's young people

When someone mentions Ashton Gate Stadium, the first thing that springs to mind for many is Bristol City Football Club, or Bristol Bears rugby, or perhaps even concerts from world famous musicians. For most, the stadium is not so frequently considered as an educational setting.

However, for the past nine years the stadium has been a bastion of learning for young people across the city through the club’s official charity – the Robins Foundation – and their education offering. This week marks the ninth year that the Foundation have operated full time education courses out of ‘The Gate’.

With last week marking the start of the new academic year, Ashton Gate Stadium reopened its doors to students from across Bristol who are enrolled to study on one of eight courses offered by the Robins Foundation.

A man who knows this education offering better than most having worked within the education department since its conception nine years ago, is the Foundation’s Head of Education, Chris Stenner, who commented: “It has been an incredible journey and it feels like we have come a long way over the past nine years.

“When we first started out, we had just 16 students enrolled onto one BTEC course located in a porta cabin in Ashton Gate’s car park. Fast forward nine years and we now offer eight courses across three locations in the city, we have state of the art, purpose-built learning facilities located within Ashton Gate Stadium and have more than 200 students enrolled to study with us.

“We incorporate sport into all of our courses and use this as a tool to keep the young people engaged in learning. We also actively tailor our delivery based on the needs of young people in the city and I feel it is these two factors that really sets us apart from the more traditional education providers.

“It is great to be welcoming students back onto our education courses this week, and I am looking forward to another exciting year ahead.

Bristol City Robins Foundation will be hosting an online open evening for students who wish to find out more about the education opportunities they have on offer on Tuesday, October 6th. Click here to find out more.
